After death human beings enter isthmus world with imaginal or purgatory bodies and continue to live in their own imaginal way, enjoying the blessings and pleasures of Paradise and suffering from pains and chastisements of hell. The issue of isthmus is one the controversial problem of eschatology in Islamic doctrines which deserves deep due attention. For this reason, it becomes a source of ambiguity for some Islamic groups. Having used Islamic scriptural evidences, Muslim theologians have explained the close relation of hereafter with material world. With an affirmative approach and analytic-descriptive method the present article attempts to explore hadiths in Shiite and Sunni sources and present appropriate classification to support its claim under such topics as possibility of relation, realization of such relation, results and consequences of this relation and finally to provide answers to the objections raised on the problem in question.

Ecstatic utterances of mystics are sometimes identified with schools originated from literary symbolism. This study is an attempt to examine this identification and show its flaws. It goes on to analyze the meaning of symbolism and ecstatic utterance, explain the fundamental elements of each of them and finally identify the relation of these two with determining their similarities and differences. For it is through ascertaining such features one can avoid confusing ecstatic utterance of Sufis with literary symbolism and resulting schools.

Relation between religion and rationality has always been subject of conspicuous discussion in both Islamic world and the West. The present article is to review the subject-matter from viewpoints of two representatives of Islamic thought al-Ghazali and Mulla Sadra. Al-Ghazali who is most known as advocating fideism recognizes the theoretical reason but deems it to be feeble to understand faith and thus he even prefers the faith of ordinary people to philosophical reason. Mulla Sadra, however, gives much weight to reason and rational arguments in the realm of faith. Though he has allusion to limitations of reason, he considers it as playing a prominent part in understanding religious statements. The present article is to bring up the points of resemblance and difference of both viewpoints by making contrast and comparison between the ideas of the two thinkers.

Mulla Sadra like other philosophers regards reality of being or being qua being as the subject-matter of philosophy. Reality of being is the same as external reality itself which he proved its primacy and priority. Throughout his philosophy he listed the properties of this reality upon which he based his philosophical arguments. It is worth noting that by making comparison between these properties and attributes of God one can easily realize that reality of being in Sadra’s view is the same as Necessary Being. Therefore, it is true that subject-matter of philosophy is being qua being or the very reality of being, but in view of the identification of attributes of Necessary Existence with those of reality of being we can conclude that all philosophical debates of Sadra have indeed centered on the Necessary Being as if there were no being in reality other than God with whom all other existents have their own realization.

Study of perfect man is one of the prominent themes in humanology of Islamic mysticism. Through his spiritual journey he attains the final end of creation and becomes the complete manifestation of God’s all-comprehensive Name in the world of kingdom. He is single of his age and perfect mirror of the Truth, acting as mediate between the angelic world and the world of kingdom. He is vicegerent of God on earth embodying all His perfection. The whole universe centered on him and with his absence it becomes trembled and crumbled. The present article is to answer the question of the keywords used for perfect man in Shiite hadiths. In responding the question the author suggests such possible keywords as Imam, proof of God, vicegerent of Allah, the Single of the age, Pole of universe, mediate of emanation, and the like in searching hadith collections. The perfect embodiment of this sort of man is holy Prophet of Islam and infallible Imams including the last living Imam Mahdi.

Recently a view has been presented against traditional theory of mental being. According to this view mental existence of quiddities in representational knowledge is negated and a distinction is made between meaning and referent as absolute essential object of knowledge and qualified object of knowledge respectively and separate from concept which is identified as representational knowledge. Such distinctions in this view give rise to fundamental changes in epistemological as well as ontological views. The present article is to give a critical review of the view in question. To begin with, no argument has been provided for the distinction made between essential object of knowledge and representational knowledge. Moreover, the implications of distinguishing meaning from concept, referent and reality are incompatible.

The ultimate aim of religion is to illumination of human being in light of knowledge and proximity to God. The truth and Path constitute the kernel of religion and Sharia its shell.
To Sayyed Heydar Amoli the supreme purpose of religion is monotheism and in terms of the People of gnosis the attainment of the status of “annihilation in Allah”.
In James’s view religion deals with the most profound moment of individuals and at same time is concerned with the very center of reality. The present article is an attempt to examine the views of these two philosophers on religion and make a comparison of their ideas on mystical and religious experiences.
