Abstract

One of the main questions of philosophy of mind is how to explain such mental states as love, hate and compassion. In response to this question different views are developed the important of which are: identity theory, functionalism, behaviorism etc.
The present article is to first have glance at background of behaviorism and then examine the nature of such theory. The arguments offered in support of it are rationally dealt with and critically surveyed. The research concludes that due to the serious objections made to the arguments in question one cannot regard mental states to be merely observable and external matters but they are to be considered as internal esoteric phenomena.
