The Role of Ibn Arabi’s Ontological View in Explaining the Nature and Reality of Revelation

Abstract

The nature and reality of revelation in Islam world is one of the complicated problem on which thinkers and scholars have had different views to explain and analyze. In this way, Ibn Arabi’s view on revelation has had a distinct place and  interested other thinkers. The present article is to give  detailed accounts on this issue including conceptual explanation of revelation, necessity of revelation, levels of revelation, its relation with unveiling, presenting eventually a brief account on the process of revelation from Ibn Arabi’s viewpoint which is deeply connected with his own ontological view. The article concludes with enumerating four basic properties of revelation derived from the same ontological view of Ibn Arabi, giving finally an analysis on the decent of revelation and its nature in his viewpoint.
