Abstract

Positive conventionalism in the field of ethics is based on the belief that convention, orf, may be regarded as as a source of moral value. Positive conventionalists may be divided into two groups: some emphasize the role of custom without any true support in establishing moral value, and others emphasize the role of the custom on the basis of true support in establishing of it. Each of them has presented some reasons for their claims, regarding their cultural effects, whose study seems to be necessary. In this paper, an attempt has been made to analyze the perspectives related to the first group and study two of their most notable reasons critically. As shown in the paper, the two reasons of cultural differences and public emotins are exposed to theoretical and practical objections.
