Abstract

Ibn Sinas’s view of ethics are based on his philosophical principles and thus the definition, subject-matter, themes, purpose and method of ethics presented by him are all grounded on his philosophical system. The present article is an attempt to shed light on the ends and purposes of ethics in view of Avicenna’s works. To Ibn Sina the purpose of ethics is the perfection of practical reason which is realization of acquisition of moderation. Realization of this quality is a middle perfection as a preamble to the perfection of theoretical reason which is in his view of degrees the highest of which the conjunction with Active Intellect. The perfection of soul in both intellectual and practical dimensions takes human being to felicity and goodness. Men are of different degrees of felicity in proportion to their levels of perfection in the domains of practice and intellection. The article is to give a critical analysis of Ibn Sina’s view at the end of the article.
