The cultivation of logical thinking in children has become a shared global concern, with diverse approaches and principles existing worldwide. In the approach underlying the present research, alongside developing children’s thinking skills, teaching philosophical concepts—particularly those of Transcendent Theosophy (Ḥikmat Mutaʿāliyah)—is deemed essential, as fostering thought based on sound foundations is preferable to unfounded intellectual growth. Among the principles of this philosophical tradition, belief in the mode of relation between created beings and God as the existence-bestowing Cause (ʿIllat) constitutes one of the most significant issues capable of enhancing children’s theological comprehension and establishing robust doctrinal foundations. Furthermore, demonstrating the feasibility of teaching this complex concept on a small scale paves the way for instructing other concepts on broader levels. Employing library and field research methods, this study examines the issue from the perspective of Islamic philosophers while investigating the impact of two narrative frameworks in imparting sound foundational understanding. The research aims to determine the effect of these stories on children’s grasp of the relation of the effect’s (Maʿlūl) essential dependence (ʿAyn al-Rabṭī) on the cause. In this semi-experimental investigation, a fifteen-member group of children aged thirteen to sixteen underwent randomized pre-test and post-test evaluations. Results indicated that the two-story frameworks—designed to convey the concept of the effect’s essential dependence on the cause to 13–16-year-olds—proved effective in achieving
the objective, enhancing children’s understanding of this concept (as measured by
pre-test/post-test analysis using the dependent t-test). By demonstrating the feasibility of conveying one of philosophy’s most challenging concepts to children on a small scale, it may be concluded that if specialists in this field collaborate with skilled authors to create engaging stories for children, key concepts of Islamic philosophy can be transmitted to them, thereby establishing their beliefs upon sound conceptual foundations.
